Adam Stubbings profile picture

Director and Principal Adviser Adam Stubbings set up Compass Financial in May 2009, having worked as a financial adviser in London for ten years. He started the business with 40 clients and £4M of clients' money under his advice, before going on to acquire the portfolios of four retiring four retiring financial advisers, bringing client numbers up to over 600 with £80M of clients' money under advice. Further growth through acquisition is planned during 2017/18.

Educated at TS Indefatigable, a Naval College on Anglesey where he was Head Boy, Adam later moved to London, where he met Katy, his future wife. Katy came from Ruthin, and this is where they have settled with their two young daughters. Both girls are students at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay and are enjoying all the opportunities there including participation in sports teams.

Earlier in Adam’s working life, he took a four year career break to pursue his passion for Scuba Diving and set up AKS Diving where he taught to Instructor Trainer level. He also made underwater documentaries for companies such as Channel 4 and the Discovery Channel.

Back in March 2014 Adam went on an expedition across Baffin Island in the Arctic where he was part of a five person team sleeping under canvas, walking 140 miles in 10 days in average temperatures of -28 degrees. This trip helped raise much needed funds for the Youth Adventure Trust.

Adam is an endurance sports enthusiast having successfully completed three full distance Ironman triathlon competitions (swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, run 26.2 miles). He also enjoys open water swimming and in 2016 took part in the Windermere 10km swim. On a more local and a family level, Adam, Katy and the girls head off to their boat in Pwllheli most weekends during the summer.

Adam also has a passion for horology. He is fascinated by the detail and workmanship involved in designing and creating top quality watches and has been known to advise his clients on watch purchases!

Ceri Philipson profile picture

Ceri joined Compass Financial in March 2010, initially as a Financial Paraplanner progressing more recently to Operations Manager with responsibility for overseeing the day to day running of the company and making sure things run smoothly.

Following her degree in Accountancy and Finance, Ceri joined a leading advisory firm in North Wales as a graduate trainee adviser where she gained a Diploma in Financial Planning. After nearly five years, she left to work for Conwy Council for a short time before joining Compass.

Ceri is continuing to study with the Chartered Insurance Institute and hopes to achieve Chartered Status in due course.

Born and brought up in Pentrefoelas, Ceri now lives in Clawddnewydd with her partner Rob and two young children.

When not at work, she enjoys a busy life with regular trips to Pembrokeshire to visit family. She enjoys shopping and attempting to play golf – her partner, who is a member at Conwy Golf Club, is teaching her to play.

Paul Nelson profile picture

Paul joined Compass Financial in April 2013, having spent more than 30 years in the Financial Services industry.

He worked previously at managerial level for both Nat West Bank and The Halifax in the North West of England, moving on when the banks moved away from offering financial advice – Paul's specialist area.

He now has his own client portfolio in Compass Financial and supports Adam with his clients too. In 2015, Paul gained a Certificate in Regulated Equity Release, giving us the opportunity to offer client advice in this area.

Married with a grown up son and daughter, Paul lives on the Wirral. A lifelong Everton FC supporter and season ticket holder, he played football himself when he was a little younger and also coached his local junior football team for seven years.

Paul regularly goes jogging and he plays an occasional game of golf. As well as being an Everton FC enthusiast, he also enjoys rugby league and he follows Warrington Wolves.

Bethan Jones profile picture

Bethan joined us in April 2017 as a Financial Paraplanner and recently progressed into the role of Financial & Mortgage Adviser.

Bethan has more than 15 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry and holds the Diploma in Financial Planning. She is keen to continue her studies and aims to achieve Chartered Status in the next 2 years.

Married with three sons, Bethan lives on the outskirts of the small village of Llanfihangel GM and enjoys a busy family life. When she has time her interests include reading, keeping active and spending time with family and friends.

Amy Gosse profile picture

Amy joined Compass Financial in July 2013 after graduating with a 2.1 degree in History and Politics from Lancaster University.

Compass Financial is supporting her as she trains with The Chartered Insurance Institute towards her Certificate in Paraplanning and so far, she has passed the following exams: R01 Financial services, regulation and ethics, R02 Investment principles and risk and R03 Personal Taxation. She is now working towards her final Paraplanning module to obtain the qualification.

Paraplanning involves administrative duties, adviser support and conducting product research. She fully expects to be qualified within the next two years following further study and is enjoying her training and this new professional direction she has taken.

Outside of work, Amy likes jogging, horse riding and netball. Amy has lived in Ruthin since childhood, and, as her home is near to Adam and his family, she has become a reliable (and very popular) babysitter for Adam’s daughters.

Lyndsay Gray profile picture

Lyndsay joined Compass Financial in April 2017 having worked in financial services since 2001 (with a couple of shorts breaks to look after payroll and HR) with roles spanning administration, report writing and advising. Lyndsay has an IFS Level 4 Diploma and has also gained R03 Financial Protection, the IFP Level 4 Certificate in Paraplanning and is qualified in CeMAP 1-3. At some point in the future she would also like to work towards achieving Chartered status.

Travelling each day from Rhyl on the north Wales coast, Lyndsay thoroughly enjoys her job as no two days are the same, keeping life very interesting.

Outside of work, much of Lyndsay’s time is spent looking after her young daughter Freya. She also likes to relax and socialise with her wider family and friends. She used to enjoy horse riding, but says she has less time on her hands for that these days.

Chris Shield profile picture

Chris joined Compass Financial in September 2017 as a trainee financial paraplanner. Compass is supporting Chris as he is currently studying for his IFS Level 4 Diploma for Financial Advisers with the Old Mutual Wealth Financial Adviser School. During his study Chris will be acquiring extensive knowledge of the UK financial services industry undertaking exams and assignments with training being delivered through virtual classroom and face to face sessions.

Chris hopes to achieve his qualification by October 2018.

Prior to joining Compass, Chris previously worked in numerous management roles for the UK’s largest retailer.

Chris was born and brought up in Wrexham where he currently resides, but is currently looking to move from home in the near future. Chris is learning a number of different aspects of the business as he learns and develops through his career.

Outside of work, Chris spends his time relaxing and socialising with friends; enjoys playing golf and going to the gym, and is a big Newcastle United fan.

Lyndsay Gray profile picture

Lois joined Compass Financial in February 2018 as a financial administrator.

Previously worked as a Fleet Administrator in Deeside for three years, after completing an apprenticeship with an NVQ in business administration in 2014.

Moved from home to Denbigh last summer with boyfriend Dion, originally from Broughton but moved to Llanrhaeadr in 2005 because her dad had seen a barn there which he wanted to convert.

Outside of work she enjoys going on long country walks and spending time with her friends and family.

Sion joined Compass Financial in April 2018 as a Trainee Paraplanner.

Having previously worked in a local estate agency for over 6 years, he felt it was time to further his career and enter into the Financial Services industry..

He has lived in Ruthin all his life and has spent the last three years renovating his first house and hopes to be able to move in very soon!

Outside of work, Sion enjoys socialising with friends together with going for walks up Moel Fammau on nice evenings.

Chris joined Compass Financial in May 2018 as a Financial Advisor having worked for Halifax, Bank of Scotland, prior to it becoming the Lloyds Banking Group for the last 10 years. During his time with the Lloyds group, Chris amassed experience in the Private Banking, Bancassurance and Retail sectors of the business.

Chris has an LIBF Level 4 Diploma & has also gained an Equity Release Qualification (CeRER) & Mortgage Qualification (CeMAP 1-3) & Long Term Care Insurance (CeLTCI); he is aiming to become a Chartered Adviser within 2019.

Chris resides in the village of Wistaston, near to the town of Nantwich with his fiancé & their 2 children; he spends his spare time running, swimming & generally being outdoors with his family and their dog. He loves taking part in charity events such as Born Survivor (like Tough Mudder).
